HM Meeting RoomHistorian and genealogist Gail Jackson Miller will share the story of the infamous Harpe Brothers, whose reign of terror finally ended in Muhlenberg County in 1799.
Join us to learn more about the infamous Harpe Brothers -- America's first serial killers -- and how you can apply the lessons learned from separating the facts of their story from the legend to your own family story.
The Harpe Brothers terrorized the Kentucky and Tennessee frontier in the period of 1797-1799. Their story began in East Tennessee and came to a close at Harpe’s Hill in Muhlenberg County. Different versions of their story are in print containing truths, half-truths, and fabrications, all adding to the story’s appeal. Learn how to determine fact from fiction in historical accounts by taking a closer look at the Harpe story and how to use these stories of the notorious to add interest to your own family’s story.

Harbin Memorial Library
Harbin Memorial Library is our main facility and serves as the business office. The building includes a circulating collection of books, movies and more; public computer access and Wi-Fi; a large meeting room; a smaller conference room; and hosts multiple public events and activities throughout the year. A book drop is located at both front and back of the building, allowing 24/7 access to return borrowed materials.
As part of a single library system, materials can also be transferred freely between the main and branch libraries for patrons’ convenience.
