Thistle CottageBowling Green artist Cindy Houston presents her hand-dyed, wearable art created using locally sourced natural dyes.
Artist and Bowling Green resident Cindy Houston will share her work with viewers at Thistle Cottage in August as the featured artist for the month.
Houston creates unique works of wearable art using organic cotton fabric and locally sourced plants. Each piece reflects the natural world on cloth, transformed through the process of botanical alchemy. Her materials - organic cotton, silk, local plants, and zero-waste patterns - are all part of her commitment to a sustainable artistic practice. The one-size scarves, vests, tunics and kimono jackets are made using a low-waste approach to pattern making, cutting, sewing and dyeing.
Join us Aug. 4 to meet the artist, view her work and learn how she creates her beautifully colorful pieces using the plants that grow naturally in the world around us.
Light refreshments will be provided.
The artwork will remain on display throughout the month of August. Even if you cannot join us for the open house, stop by any time during regular business hours to view the beautiful artwork, read about the artist's inspirations and learn about natural plant dying.

Thistle Cottage
Thistle Cottage is a historic home located in downtown Greenville. The building includes a museum dedicated to local history on its upper level, as well as a gallery that features rotating exhibits throughout the year. The lower level houses our history and genealogy archives and research collection, including public records and vital statistics; past issues of local newspapers; files of information on community events, organizations and families; and much more. The facility also offers access to online resources with a dedicated public access computer and Wi-Fi.
A portion of the museum level is also available to rent for smaller events.
