Learn about plants that Native Americans in our region grew and used!
Erika Wood, Extension Agent for Horticulture in Hopkins County, Ky., will present a discussion about plants grown and used locally by Native American populations. We will discuss different types of plants and how they were used, then we'll plant some seeds of our own to take home.
This is a free activity presented in conjunction with "Americans," a traveling Smithsonian exhibit on display at Muhlenberg County Public Libraries' Thistle Cottage Oct. 4-Nov. 15, 2025. "Americans" explores the history, impact, and contributions of American Indians locally and on a national scale.
The exhibition is part of Museum on Main Street, a unique collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), state humanities councils across the nation and local host institutions. Visit www.museumonmainstreet.org to learn more about Americans and other Museum on Main Street exhibitions.
Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the U.S. Congress, Kentucky Humanities and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
